Our History

OttawaTheatre.ca began as a mailing list in July 2001 to address the shortage of audition information available centrally for thespians in Ottawa and the surrounding area. In January 2002, a related website called Ottawa Theatre etc. was established to provide even more information for people involved in theatre.

In September 2003, thanks to a boost from friends at the Zucchini Grotto Theatre Company, the URL www.ottawatheatre.ca was acquired and the webpage moved to this new, more identifiable location.

The Ottawa Theatre distribution list and website were started, and continue to be maintained, by Tanya Chang.

Tanya has been involved in the Ottawa theatre community since 1991. Her early years in theatre were spent playing flute, piccolo and bassoon for The Company of Musical Theatre pit orchestra.

Since 1994, Tanya has been seen on stage in musical productions by the Orpheus Musical Theatre Society, GOYA Theatre Productions, Opera Lyra Ottawa, The Company of Musical Theatre, Ottawa Little Theatre, Suzart Productions, the Savoy Society of Ottawa and S.J. Productions. She has played in the pit orchestra for the Greely Players, choreographed for several theatre groups, and performed at weddings, variety shows and fundraisers. She can also often be found teaching the dance portion of auditions for different theatre groups.

As well as maintaining OttawaTheatre.ca, Tanya maintains websites for the CMT Alumni, the Circle of Friends Ad Hoc Theatre Company, and Orpheus. She was a member of the Hot Toddy Christmas Quartet for three seasons and Harmonic Generation, an a capella ensemble, for a year. She is also a longtime member of the Nepean Concert Band.
