ANNE OF GREEN GABLES is the musical adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's novel about a plucky orphan who comes to Avonlea, Prince Edward Island through a miscommunication and finds happiness and a home with an unconventional family.

Having sent for an orphan boy to assist her brother Matthew on their farm, Marilla Cuthbert is caught by surprise when a dreamy and precocious red-haired girl is delivered to her. Matthew, a shy and quiet man, takes to the talkative little girl from the moment he first sets eyes on her at the train station, but Marilla only reluctantly agrees to keep her.

Anne quickly develops a kindred friendship with Diana Barry, and a hatred towards Gilbert Blythe who unwittingly insults her to the very core of her mortal soul when he teasingly calls her "Carrots" because of her long red braids. Anne's tongue, her fiery spirit and her eagerness to please also manage to get her in a number of scrapes, all of which somehow sort themselves out as she wins the hearts of the people in Avonlea. Even, in the end, as Anne and Gilbert compete against each other for the Avery Scholarship, Anne finds that even she can make friends with someone she once saw as her rival and enemy.
