Theatre: More Shakespeare in her future

by Catherine Lawson [September 29, 2004]

Ottawa's Adrienne Gould has won a Tyrone Guthrie Award for her work at the Stratford Festival. The Mary Savidge Award is given to an actress "who has shown outstanding commitment to her craft."

Gould has roles in three plays this season, which ends next month: A Midsummer Night's Dream, Swanne and The Count of Monte Cristo. Gould, who got her start in Ottawa community theatre, is one of three siblings who have performed at Stratford. Brother Jonathan also has a role in The Count of Monte Cristo. Sister Jennifer last year played the title role in Gigi and Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

There is more Shakespeare in Adrienne's future. In January, she will appear in Love's Labour's Lost at the NAC Theatre, directed by Marti Maraden.

The Guthrie awards were named for the Stratford Festival's founder and are administered by a committee of theatre professionals. Adrienne plans to use her cash award to travel.
